TriBal V

A certain aura of mystique has always surrounded the legendary Gibson Flying V. Ever since its introduction in 1958, the Flying V has remained the ultimate symbol of rock and roll rebellion. And although it wasn’t fully embraced until the hard rock and heavy metal movements of the late ’60s and early ’70s, the guitar’s intense magnetic appeal, powerful sound and unusually familiar shape have made it one of the most instantly recognizable guitars in the world. That tradition lives on in the new Tribal V – Gibson USA’s latest addition to its Limited Run Series line of guitars. The Tribal V takes the classic Flying V format to the next level, delivering an instrument honed for the contemporary player with all the time-honored features of the original. Clearly the most identifiable part of the Tribal V is its V-shaped mahogany body. On the new Tribal V, however, the body is also set in a Satin White finish with a distinct Tribal art pattern design to accent the guitar’s electronics and traditional lines, making it one of the most eye-catching Vs Gibson USA has ever produced. The Tribal art pattern design also appears on the guitar’s headstock, which remains true to the unique, pointed headstock found on the original Flying V. The neck is also the traditional Flying V neck, which is a hybrid between the standard ’50s rounded contour and the ’60s slim-taper profile. Each Tribal V comes equipped with the industry’s ultimate tremolo system – the Kahler 2215K from Kahler USA. This black chrome stud mount tremolo system features individual fine tuners, a brass cam and stainless steel saddles that deliver enhanced sustain and harmonics and a warm, rich overall tone. Add the muscle of uncovered Gibson 496R and 500T humbucker pickups and you end up with one scorching and timeless rock and roll classic. The new Tribal V Limited Run Series from Gibson USA is restricted to just 350 guitars, and all of them come with a black Gibson hardshell case with white interior and silkscreened Gibson USA logo and a special certificate of authenticity.

There is no mistaking a Firebird V—with its unique "reversed" zig-zag body design and equally distinct headstock, it is simply one of the most recognizable of all guitar profiles. First introduced in 1963, the Gibson Firebird was the brainchild of legendary automotive designer and visionary Ray Dietrich (Lincoln, Packard), enlisted by Gibson to bolster the guitar lines of the early '60s and help solidify the company's eminent rank among solidbody electric guitar manufacturers. Dietrich's unconventional design was based loosely on both the legendary automobile tailfins of the 1950s and the Gibson Explorer, which had been introduced several years earlier.

TobIaS GroWler

Tobias basses have enjoyed a stellar reputation ever since the first one was built in early 1978. Thirty-plus years and countless instruments later, the quality and precision of a Tobias bass has only gotten better, and nowhere is it more evident than the new 2009 Limited Run Series Tobias Growler from Gibson USA. Starting with its solid swamp ash body, the new Tobias Growler is one of the most resonant basses ever made by Gibson USA. Swamp ash tonewood is characterized by huge, open pores and soft layers, which gives each new Growler a deep reverberation and fullness of sound across the entire frequency spectrum. The Growler’s tone is unique, and it’s hard to match. The highs are clear and bell-like. The mids are bold and pronounced. And the lows are strong and definite. The 34-inch scale length glued-in neck is made from pure maple with purple heart laminate for a creamy smooth feel and easy, comfortable playability. It also sports a totally adjustable “Quad Bass” truss rod, for complete control in making all neck adjustments. It is matched with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard void of any inlay markers and no binding. Additionally, every 2009 Limited Run Series Tobias Growler receives the revolutionary Plek system setup – a computerized setup that accurately aligns each fret and intonates each string, leaving the bass as impeccably playable as possible. The Bartolini bridge pickup is a natural choice for the Growler, delivering the hearty lows, deep mids and quiet performance expected from a Bartolini bass pickup. Everything about the 2009 Limited Run Series Tobias Growler breathes excellence, and they won’t be around for long. Like all the guitars from this special series, only 350 will be produced and distributed. Each one will come with a black Tobias case and special Limited Run Series certificate of authenticity.

IbaNeZ

DarKsTone - ibaNez

New for 2009, the DN is a solid rock n' roll powerhouse. It features a new design and sound unlike any other Ibanez guitar. The new Tight-Tune Bridge is sturdy and resonant, and the new tailpiece is equipped with the Ball-End Stopper. The new humbuckers have a quick response with rich harmonics, and the new single coils are fat and powerful when compared with traditional single coils. The Darkstone is better known as the DN500 and shares some of the styling of the FR1260, a Telecaster inspired guitar featuring Ibanez’s Tight-End bridge. Each saddle is locked into the base plate, and the bridge is anchored by stud bolts into the body of the guitar. Furthermore, the studs are also locked onto the base plate so that the maximum vibration from the string is transferred to the body. Ibanez say that the guitar features a solid, rich and resonant heavy tone due to the Sapele body and set neck. The tone pot doubles as a coil split switch when pulled into the up position to increase the tonal variations from the 3 way selector.

Personally I prefer the FR1620 to the DN500, it has a much classier body shape and, having played it, and incredibly thick and powerful tone and a great Wizard Maple neck with a Walnut fingerboard. The DN500 has a strange cutout where the rear strap button is situated which makes it look a bit BC Rich or something and I don’t really like the inlays so much, but that is just my opinion.
